Compliance Kart Pvt Ltd, in partnership with AFC India Limited, has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding with the National Jute Board (NJB) and ICAR-Central Research Institute for Jute & Allied Fibres (CRIJAF) to develop a carbon credit project centred on sustainable jute cultivation. The collaboration brings together three complementary strengths: NJB's mandate across the jute value chain, CRIJAF's research leadership in jute and allied fibres, and Compliance Kart's expertise in carbon project development and monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV). The project addresses two key areas. First, it aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from conventional jute farming by improving agronomic practices and adopting advanced retting with CRIJAF-SONA. Second, it focuses on converting jute sticks — an under-utilised agricultural residue — into biochar, enabling durable carbon removal in place of open burning. The pilot phase will roll out across 20,000 hectares in Nadia and North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. For jute farmers, the initiative is designed to deliver near-term benefits in productivity and fibre quality, alongside a long-term carbon credit revenue stream over the life of the project. Jute is already recognised as one of the most sustainable natural fibres. This partnership seeks to measure and strengthen that advantage while ensuring its value reaches the farmers who cultivate it. Compliance Kart extends its appreciation to the teams at NJB and ICAR-CRIJAF for their continued trust and collaboration.
